twenty-six thousand six hundred


august only accumulates despair is a liquid
I keep it in jars

in the basement,
in the wardrobe,

past anyone’s furthest curiosity,
I repeat, to forever, my intentions

(I have used up all my precision
I have used up all my grace)

I scratch the words in the wood panel—

that’s enough counting the dead now,
don’t you agree?
there is work yet to be done
