Iv
twenty-three thousand and two
a warning and a lie
how marvellous,
to be unwanted
to excise, into sand,
all layers, all footnotes
of unneeded selves
along the shore, still,
mostly, a wasteland,
a putrescence of algae
a soft meeting and a love
try it with me:
I practice lachryphagy,
I am the crying thing,
invite flies to their saline—
please, vermin, come eat!
let me be worth something!
twenty-four thousand two hundred and nineteen
