Jamal Chandler grew up in Montreal, Canada. He had a lonely childhood, and while he may now have many friends (whom he appreciates all the more because of that time), story was his first friend. When he grew old enough to read, he began to be left alone at the library. He brought home books and, crouching beneath the blinds, using the dim light from a nearby street­light, he read voraciously through the night. Older now, the only difference is he has better lighting. Always inspired by how story can connect with people, when daylight comes, Jamal writes.
