In Memoriam, Bob Cobbing and Jennifer Pike Cobbing

by derek beaulieu

Bob Cobbing (1920-2002) and Jennifer Pike Cobbing (1920-2016) were, for over 50 years, some of the most influential concrete and performance poets in the world. Their work – on stage, on tape and in print – defined the limits of publishing and production. Their shadows stretch across the entire field of small press publishing, visual poetics and sound performance. These two pieces, originally created on the notice of Bob’s death, were created by dripping India Ink on the platen of my scanner, inked tears left to create a sonic score of silent performance.
