I Try Not to Worry But

outside it’s
dark
at 10 am
I’m in here thinking of
dirt roads
the old truck I want to be picked up by
when I cross America
I think of the
unlimited freedom
that comes with loose ends
the way you make my chest feel heavy
sometimes my eyelids
drop

I watch her hands move to the sound of water
thin and white
bird bones on a platter
