Liminal Venus
The Words I was Fed
I will not lay my orchids
At the altar of Liminal Venus
Praying that men may worship me
Again. They find beauty in themselves
“She’s not like other girls”
An incantation of justification
For any feeling but arousal.
The fish hooks I wove into my hair
Were once enough to catch toothy pike
Hungry to taste the flesh of my body
But leaving this middle place
I find I do not miss their predation.
Give me instead to the magpies
Enamoured with how my brow glitters
They pluck the stars from my eyes
And thread them into their nest
So that I may see the shape of their home.
